We visited Carter Falls in Elkin North Carolina in the spring. There were some resent rains so the water was a little high and muddy but not too much. We start in the parking lot and take the left trail to the lower falls. It ends up at the ruins on an old water pump station on the near side of the river. After showing what there is to see here we traveled up the trail to the upper falls. We passed sever old items that were used when the water pump station was in operation. The upper falls is larger with a greater drop. It is a beautiful water fall with lots of swimming areas. If you are in this area, we recommend you visit this water fall.
